Artas hair extraction technique

Artas® Extraction Technique

Artas® is, similar to NeoGraft, also a variation of the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique. In this case, however, a robot (Artas) has been designed to punch the hair out. Essentially, the person is placed in an a machine. The robot calculates the correct angle at which the donor hair emerges from the skin. The small punch is then advanced with the robot arm to punch the follicular unit out. With the correct angle tabulated, transection rate should be ideally very low. Once the punch has been made, a person comes behind the machine and gently removes the graft from the scalp. The robotic arm and rotating punch is used for extraction only and does not implant the removed graft.

The benefits of the Artas are:

  • Speed of harvest
  • Low graft transection rate

The drawbacks are:

  • Need to shave the donor area
  • Cost (cost of the machine plus a per graft charge required by Artas the company)

All other pros and cons as discussed in the FUE section apply to both the Neograft and Artas methods/equipment. Please see page for details.
